One World Night - Sign up is open!

1/19/2024 1:10 pm

Preparations are under way for the One World Night! Our multicultural open house is a month away and so far we have over 9 countries showcased!

There is still plenty of time to sign up and we would like to have many more cultures represented. Thinking of our school in particular, we are looking for families that want to showcase China, Mexico, Ireland and our own United States of America. If you want to showcase these or any other cultures please sign up here

The theme for this year is “Sports Around the World". The theme is there to give you ideas on how to showcase your country or culture but you will choose how to do it!

In order to get our Panthers excited and involved, this past Friday all Prospect Students brought home extra “homework”. The blank sheet of paper is to be decorated by students showcasing their culture’s heritage, a culture that they would like to explore or have visited. Let the creativity of our students go free! We will be decorating our event with our students' artwork! The deadline to return the inspirational artwork is February 2nd.

This event is powered by the participation of Prospect students and their families and we look forward to your involvement! For questions or more information, contact: Bruna Burgener at bruna.burgener@gmail.com and Nadine Sbei at nadinesbei@gmail.com

Nominating committee Volunteers Needed...one time commitment!

1/19/2024 1:09 pm

Help us recruit candidates for next year's PTO! Join VPs Lauren Gray and Nicole Turano on the nominating committee. The role of the committee is to assist in identifying nominees who would be a good fit for the positions of VP, secretary, and treasurer on the executive board the following year. This is a one time commitment in mid or late February. We would like at least one representative from each grade. Thank you for volunteering! Sign up here!

4th Grade Opera for the Young: Beauty and the Beast

1/19/2024 1:04 pm

Prospect 4th grade students are in the midst of learning about opera. They discovered what characterizes the opera genre, the voice parts typically used in opera, and they will explore how other art forms collaborate to create a production with sets, costumes, dance, lighting, props, scripts and acoustics.

To culminate their learning experience, 4th grade will participate in a performance assembly on Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m. with Opera for the Young, a group of professional opera singers that tour the midwest teaching and presenting opera to young musicians. This year's production is "Beauty and the Beast." This is the operatic version (written in 1771), so it is similar, but different from the Disney story. While the opera singers will perform the majority of the production, the 4th grade class will make small cameo appearances alongside the opera singers.

4th Grade family and friends are welcome to attend. For more information including student attire, times, and production details, please see this flyer.

Balance and Weight Transfer Unit- please wear gym shoes!

1/19/2024 12:59 pm

We have started the students favorite unit of year in PE- balance and weight transfer! Our generous PTO has purchased many of these amazing items for our students to use. This unit is three weeks in length. PLEASE send a clean pair of gym shoes with your student. Any student wearing boots will have to sit out of class and we HATE doing that! It is just not safe to wear boots on the equipment. Also, dresses tend to get caught on the equipment. Leggings and sweatshirts are best for the next few weeks!

Daddy Daughter Dance-Save the Date!

Every parent knows challenges, setbacks, and failures are part of growing up. Less clear is why these experiences are crucial to healthy development and what parents can do and say to make sure their kids learn and grow from them, instead of getting stuck. Join us for an event with nationally acclaimed parenting author Michelle Icard, who will guide us with warmth, wisdom, and her signature humor, through what adults should and shouldn't do when a child they love faces a setback, including struggles with: believing in themselves, showing concern for others, connecting with peers or family members, following the rules, taking care of their bodies, and many more. Check out this flyer for more information.

Here are some ideas to get you and your student brainstorming on how to showcase the culture or country of your choice:
• Informative display board
• Display of touchable objects such as souvenirs, coins, toys, textiles, books, art, etc.
• Teach a game or host a craft at your station
• Bring food in sample sizes
