5th Grade Lego Mindstorms Robotics Club

9/8/2023 10:13 pm

Is your child interested in robotics? Do they want to know more about coding?

Prospect’s LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Club is a club where 5th grade students will learn to design, build and program robots using Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits. Because students will work in small groups to complete projects created specifically for EV3, regular attendance at club sessions is expected. Through the design process, students will develop engineering and coding skills in building and programming robots.

*Please note that students will not be able to take the robots home as all parts will be reused from session to session.

At this time, the club is available to a maximum of 20 5th grade students and will meet on the following Wednesdays after school until 4:15 p.m.:

September 20, 27
October 4, 11, 18, 25
November 1, 8, 15

Please complete this Google Form (http://tinyurl.com/RoboticsClub23) to request registration for the robotics club prior to September 15. If more than 20 registrations are received, a random number generator will be used to determine participation.

You will be notified of your child’s participation in the club or waitlist status on September 17.

If you have any questions, please contact Meredith Bailey (mbailey@d181.org).

The Community Speaker Series 2023/24 Season

9/8/2023 10:12 pm

The Community Speaker Series promotes district wide learning about education, child development, wellness and parenting. It is open and free to all members of the K-12 learning community. The intention of the series is to encourage proactive parenting that supports children’s and adolescents’ social and emotional development as well as their academic achievement.

Through the series, D86 and D181 enlist top experts to inform and inspire our community as a means to enrich school-family partnership that supports the education of our students. We are looking for parents and community members to volunteer on our committee. If you are interested in helping identify speakers for future seasons and becoming more involved, please contact Dana Martin for details (dfiordalisomartin@gmail.com).

We are excited to include the newest Wild Robot book, which is being released on September 26!

The Wild Robot Escapes (#2)
Can robot Roz survive the challenges of the civilized world and find her way home to Brightbill and the island?

The Wild Robot Protects (#3)
When mysterious, dangerous waters surround robot Roz’s island, the animals are forced inland to fight over dwindling resources. Roz calms and organizes the animals, but the poison tide takes a terrible toll on the island. So the wild robot sets out across the ocean, determined to stop the poison tide.
