12/15/2023 4:33 pm

After last year’s great success, the One World Night is back at Prospect! Students and their families are invited to showcase a culture or country of heritage or special interest at our evening open house. Join us for a fun night at Prospect celebrating culture and our school’s diversity! This year’s theme is Sports around the world.
◦ When: Thursday February 8th, 6:00 – 7:30 pm
◦ Where: Prospect School
◦ Registration for showcase participants opens TODAY!
◦ Please Sign-up here.

Here are some ideas to get you and your student brainstorming on how to showcase the culture or country of your choice:
• Informative display board
• Display of touchable objects such as souvenirs, coins, toys, textiles, books, art, etc.
• Teach a game or host a craft at your station
• Bring food in sample sizes
This event is powered by the participation of Prospect students and their families and we look forward to your involvement!

Due to the awesome turnout last year, we will make sure that families that sign up to showcase have a break during the event to enjoy the One World Night and visit the other tables.

Call for parent volunteers for Science Week (Spring 2024)

12/15/2023 4:08 pm

Dear Prospect Parents!

It is time to kick off the preparation of our next Science Week events at Prospect (mid-March). These events aim to engage students in hands-on, interactive science activities, and we believe it will be a fun and educational experience for all involved. To make this event a success, we are reaching out to our wonderful parent community for support. We are seeking 3-5 enthusiastic volunteers to join the committee and assist with organizing and facilitating various science-related activities throughout the week. Volunteer opportunities and duties are
1. Bi-weekly meetings (in-person or on Zoom)
2. Brainstorm and design the Science Week program.
3. Assist in organizing and preparing materials for classroom experiments and demonstrations.
4. Support the student presenters at the family night (date TBD)

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the Volunteer Sign-Up Form on the PTO website and email Edgar Wang (heronbank@gmail.com) to confirm. We are going to meet the first week after the winter break.

We believe your involvement will make this Science Week an enriching experience for our students. Your support is invaluable, and we look forward to working together to inspire a passion for science in our young learners. Thank you for your time and commitment to the success of our school community.

Science Week Chair,
Edgar Wang

Hope Children's Hospital

TOY and GIFT CARD DRIVE FOR HOPE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

It has been a long tradition at Prospect School to collect toys for the Pediatric Cardiology and Oncology Departments at Hope Children's Hospital. With the help of Kelly Awick, retired Prospect Teacher, it is our great pleasure to continue this tradition.

Due to the fragile state of the patients the hospital is only able to accept NEW toys in original packaging. We will also be collecting and delivering Amazon and Target gift cards to the hospital to help families whose children are hospitalized this holiday season.

Drop-off Locations: Prospect School Lobby, Mrs. Nolin's Room 114, Mrs. Matt's Room 206. Gift cards will be accepted in the Office, to Mrs. Nolin, or Mrs. Matt.

Last Day of Collection: Wednesday, December 20th

The student leadership club would like to thank the parents of the students that participated on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Even after a full day of MAP testing, the 4th and 5th graders in attendance (over 40 of them) were great listeners, really engaged, and thoughtful in their questions and answers as Mr. Bob Walsh spoke about key leadership principles, and the kids shared their aspirations.
Special thanks also to Bob Walsh, Jamie Blyth, Kristin Conway, Jenny Voight, Karen Szurgot, Michelle Darin and the PTO executive board members Megan Caplis, Lauren Gray, Jessica Kaczmarski for their leadership, help and support in making this afternoon possible. Look forward to seeing our 4th and 5th grade leaders in 2024!

Long time Prospect physical education teachers, Ms. Duffy and Mrs. Conway, took home two awards this fall. First, they were recognized for an innovative program (NED Highlight Award) for the GLO-GA event held last year. Secondly, they won their third Blue Ribbon award! The Blue Ribbon is an intensive self-evaluation and site visit awarded only to the top schools in the state. Six of the seven D181 schools received the award this year! Congratulations to our amazing physical education teachers!
