District-wide Author Event with Gordon Korman

1/11/2025 9:08 pm

We are thrilled to announce that best-selling author Gordon Korman will be visiting HMS on January 17, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to share his insights, answer questions, and sign copies of his newest book, Old School, released on January 14th.

If you would like to attend the event, you must fill out this Google Form to let us know how many family members will be attending. Please note that this is only for students in grades 3-8, and one adult must attend per family. There is a minimum purchase of 1 book per family to attend the in-person event.

Pre-order your copy of Old School for $19.99 by paying the fee in Skyward (directions below). To make this event possible, we must pre-sell 150 copies of his book. There is a limited number of books still available, so order now! (A portion of the book sales will benefit our district library programs like Battle of the Books and Boundless!)
Even if your child can't attend the event, you can still purchase a personalized copy of Old School! Gordon has graciously offered to sign books in advance.

How to pay for the book in Skyward:
1. Log into your Skyward Family Access account
2. Click on the Fees tab
3. Click on Add a Fee
4. Select the Gordon Korman Old School fee (you can add multiple books)
5. Click Make a Payment
6. Pay in SchoolPay

Don't forget to also fill out the Google Form if you are attending the event!

Our winter/spring curriculum furthers the skills learned in our fall curriculum - completely new material for students who were enrolled in the fall, while new students can jump in with our exploration of taking ovals to cylinders and triangles to pyramids!

Creating lifelong artists by teaching realistic drawing and artistic methods using professional materials and then connecting, through an open art studio format, to the most powerful force on earth, a child’s imagination. We take 2D shapes to 3D shapes to personalized objects to gain fundamental skills + creative confidence.

Teaching centered around a custom-printed ArtCard written by Maureen. 15 minutes of technical drawing skills + 45 minute open art studio with high quality art supplies. We end with circle talk, where the children learn to talk about their artistic process.

Included in tuition:
- A take-home sketchbook
- Zippered canvas bag with a pencil, eraser, and Sharpie
- All classroom supplies (professional art materials)
- Weekly custom ArtCards

We create a universe of Yes with positivity and encouragement for our students. We foster any artistic path the children want to follow and they gain confidence, new skills, and a new understanding along the way.
